The first wave of Star Wars Black Series figures from The Acolyte hit stores in September 2024 a couple of months after the show had aired on Disney+. The Galaxy Collection Wave 17 was entirely made up of Acolyte characters including four Jedi as well as the key characters of Mae and Osha.
The Acolyte series within the Galaxy Collection features a new red-shaded accent colour and the figures are packed in the new squared-off box style with the numbering now included on both the front and the back of the box. Osha Aniseay is number 01 in the Acolyte series, kicking off the side montage artwork and connecting into Jedi Master. The rear of the box features a cropped version of the same side illustration as well as a short piece of background text that is the same on all 6 Acolyte releases from Wave 17 giving us just a synopsis about the show - most likely to avoid spoilers had these figures arrived early.
The new box design also now features a colour-coordinated backing card for the figure with the deep red Acolyte colour scheme which certainly contrasts Osha’s green and beige Meknek overalls. Rather than being a plain colour backing, there is an illustration within the backing card. For Osha, this is the forest backdrop from Khofar the same backdrop as is used on the side artwork.
Osha arrives in her Mechnek fatigues as seen during the majority of The Acoylte as she journeys with Master Sol to investigate the mysterious Sith Assassin. The body is cast in an olive green flight suit with sculpted pockets and pouches and overpainted with a darker wash to add weathering. Over this is a softer plastic cream sleeveless vest jacket with a silver-painted comms device on the left side with red indicator light. Osha’s costume also features a softer plastic belt, slung lo over her hips and with an opening pocket at one side. And for her blaster, there is a similar soft plastic shoulder strap and holster in brown. While the belt is fixed unless you dismantle the figure, the holster can be taken off.
Osha features a very well-defined and accurate likeness to actor Amandla Stenberg with a head sculpt that appears to also be shared with the Mae (Assassin) figure - which makes sense considering they are twins. Facial printing brings our Osha’s eyes and lips, but with a smooth complexion, there is limited need for any facial shading. The hairpiece - which does differ from Mae - is a separate piece with a braided style and starting with a black base but featuring a blend out to a darker brown at the end of each braid.
Osha comes with Pip - her handheld repair droid - with two different accessories included depending on how you want Osha to interact with Pip. The firs tis the standard look for Pip, cast in light blue plastic with orange trim and silver and black component panels. This version features a partly articulated neck, allowing the head to swivel and tilt which is impressive at this size. This Pip can fit into the pouch on Osha’s belt snugly, or be hand-held.
There is then a secondary version of Pip in the open configuration so it is likely this was easier than try to incorporate that as a feature into something so small. The ‘open’ Pip is the same base blue plastic and also features the orange, black and silver on the body - but sadly the head is now not painted and missing in its entirety the orange trim and silver visor. As this open version is wider than the standard Pip, it won’t go into the pouch and is included as a handheld accessory fitting in either of Osha’s hands.
Osha also has her blaster, a snub-nosed piece with limited details in a black plastic that is new to the Black Series line. It fits into either of Osha’s gloved hands as both right and left hands include an individual trigger finger. When not in use the blaster can be holstered in the shoulder slung holster that sits under her left arm. Entry into the hoster is complicated by an upper strap and lower pouch and you have to ease the blaster in one way first then slide it up into the secondary strap.
And accessories do not end there with Osha also featuring her backpack. The bag is cast in a light leather brown with sculpted top flap of which the bottom half is painted a darker brown. The pack also features some greebles in a gunmetal grey, and a flask in metallic bronze that sits to the left hand side of the pack. This is not removable and neither can the pack be opened to function as a storage device. We have two flexible plastic straps that go over Osha’s shoulders and create a neat fit to and agains the figure although there is a marginally clash on the right shoulder if you have her wearing both holster and backpack.
Osha is one of our newer format articulated Black Series figures, all pinless and with an articulation count of 17 joints in total. The thigh swivel is one joint now phasing out with a rotation now added to the knee - for me this benefits the overall figures look without any detriment to the articulation. Osha’s arms include butterfly shoulders which support more expressive poses and with holding Pip in either configuration. I did find her legs and ankles in particularly slightly frustrating to get her standing straight with very broad ratcheting in the feet which takes a bit of work to stand flat.
Osha stands out from the wider wave as not being a Jedi or wearing similar Jedi robes as we see with Mae. Her costume - as per the show - has links in other uniforms, particularly the Rebel Alliance and is therefore recogniseable and well executed in 6-inch scale with a lot of additional parts vs the usual format. Pip is a nice inclusion with the open configuration a bonus. Another strong recreation of the on screen character.
