Toy Collector Fair at the NEC in Birmingham

We took a bit of a road trip to the NEC in Birmingham to visit the Barry Potter Toy Collector Fair, one of the biggest in the UK and attracting traders from across the UK. We usually attend the smaller Bolton Fair when that runs - and had been to this the week previously - the NEC event is on another level with an advertised 580 stalls with a definite bias on action figures and toys and plenty of new and retro figures to choose from.

We spent a good 3 hours browsing and still only did a single circuit of the salesfloor front to back and return. Our purchases included the final figure we needed from The Black Series Acolyte wave and a bargain MCU Quicksilver from Props & Replicas, as well as adding to our Star Wars Vintage Rescue process. This Kenner Star Wars side hustle is now at risk of getting out of control, especially with all the 70s and 80s Kenner figures on sale. Mini-me also struck a deal for some Marvel Legends BAF parts and picked up a Toybiz Sauron for his LOTR collection.

The highlight for me - even though it was too big for my collection room - was seeing the NECA Balrog in person.

If you are thinking of attending, the next show is in December. Pricing is £10 per entry (£2 for kids) and parking is free. The size and scale of NEC makes access and parking stress free, although the motorways around Birmingham had other plans on our return. There is a cafe and toilets on site too as well as cash machines - although most traders did accept cards.

About Me : As a child of the '70s and '80s I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force), and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licenses - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who, and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK-focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
